Thank you Debra and Laura. We would also like to thank Leona, who was so kind in helping us set up the tables, the bartender whose name we forget and all who worked the night of Delaney’s wedding (Oct. 17, 2015). Everyone we dealt with on the phone or in person was amiable, professional and very approachable. They are excellent representatives of the University Club. We felt confident that everyone was doing what they could to make our daughter’s (and our son-in-law’s) wedding run smoothly.

From the first moment of contact with the University Club we were treated to what we like to call friendly professionalism. Laura Sasaki was always prompt with e-mails and phone calls and made sure that everything was as convenient for us as it could be. The planning process was as low stress as it could have been, with Laura providing excellent guidance throughout the process.

 The staff at the University Club were flexible, with our buffet requests and guests’ special meal needs accommodated without a hitch.Leona, Chris, Dan, Laura (who opened the bar on the Saturday) and the rest of the staff present on the night before and night of our wedding were essential to the effortless feel of our wedding reception.

We and the bridesmaids showed up (unannounced!) on the night before the wedding to set up, and Leona checked in with us regularly and helped us to make some amazing last minute adaptations. Dan was gracious to give the go-ahead for the use of the Club’s pipe and drape and up-lights to make a last minute photo-booth that our guests loved. Although I know we were interrupting Leona, she never once made us feel like we were inconveniencing her. 

 On the night of, Dan and the staff executed everything flawlessly. Glasses of wine were poured, the buffet was one of the quickest lines I have ever seen, Jenny’s grandma had her special request of a mug of hot water expeditiously delivered by Leona. The staff were always smiling and pleasant and things moved so quickly without us even realizing things were being done – we cut the cake, it disappeared and reappeared plated on the dessert table. 

Last but not least, the setting is breathtaking. 

We will wholeheartedly recommend the University club to all friends and colleagues looking to have a wedding or other party in Victoria. Hopefully we will be able to host another gathering at some point in the future (Jenny’s parents are approaching retirement!)

Hi Heather,
Now that we are back from our honeymoon and things are finally calming down after the wedding, I am getting a chance to send you this thank you! We had an amazing wedding day, and I just wanted to extend a huge thank you to everyone involved at the University Club. Every interaction I have had with staff at the club has been so helpful, positive and professional. Heather, you have been so patient with me and all my emails, and were always so quick to answer and always gave detailed and helpful answers to all of our questions. You were so lovely to work with during the planning process. The bartender Chris was helpful at answering questions when we dropped by, as well as another lady, who serves at the restaurant and I think also helps out at the bar part-time (I wish I got her name). All very pleasant. A special thank you to Dan, who according to my sister (aka Maid of Honour and MC for my wedding) was extremely patient with instructions regarding the projector when my mom was having a “moment” and kept changing her mind about having it up or down. He was so accommodating, and even got my sister a glass of wine when he could see she was getting slightly stressed out by all of this. That is what I mean about going above and beyond. The facility itself is gorgeous too – the perfect setting for a wedding. I have to say, you guys do it right, and I would recommend the University Club to anyone looking for a wedding venue. I only have a couple pics so far released from our photographer, but I’d love to send you a couple of the decorated space when they come through.

Thanks so much for checking in! I’ve been dying to email you but we only just got back from our honeymoon yesterday, apologies for the delay here!

The day was perfect – honestly everything went so incredibly well, we were thrilled. The staff were so amazing, Dan was so helpful, the food was delicious – it couldn’t have been better. We are so, so grateful. An official thank you card is on the way, but in the mean time, please pass on our sincerest and warmest thanks!!! 

Thank you again for all your hard work, it wouldn’t have been the same without you!!! We are SO appreciative. I hope you had a lovely vacation as well, I’m sure it was well deserved!!

We had the pleasure of attending your Hallowe’en Party as guests last weekend, on Oct 31 as Stephen the Pirate and Princess Penelope.  Thank you for the lovely prize! We have a pub in our home and will add the skull mugs to our collection!
We have such fun attending your events. Since I am gluten and dairy intolerant, it is absolutely wonderful how your chef fills in the menu to accommodate those of us who cannot eat everything that we would like…including dessert!!! Bless his soul! Please tell him I absolutely LOVED the Rizopia with the Daiya cheese sauce and the GF cake with the chocolate fountain. YUM, YUM, YUM. He has inspired me to venture out into the realm of cheese and pasta and cake, and that is no small undertaking for me!

Thank you so much for your wonderful management! We really appreciate the venue, the food, the staff, the clientele and the camaraderie! What a lovely combination!

On behalf of the Victoria MG Club, thank you for all you did to make our annual Christmas Dinner Party a success. I really enjoyed the buffet dinner this Friday night and the chance to watch the Blue Jays game with our friends. They enjoyed the evening, too, and the ambiance of the University Club. 

We will continue to use the University Club to entertain guests. The food and service are good, the park surroundings are attractive, and there is no loud music, which we find to be a problem in many restaurants.

I have been asked to write a note to you about the RTC dinner last night.

Given that we had engaged a ‘star’ speaker, Bob McDonald, we expected a larger than usual turnout.  Although I called in 65 on Monday, we actually had 69 in attendance.  This meant setting more places, more dinners for staff to serve, and a longer line at the bar. Bartender Chris ably handled the extra bar duties.

The serving staff, Judy and her crew, were just great. They rose to the challenges beyond our expectations. They had to contend with the ‘haggis’ceremony, scotches, and the extra settings. The whole evening just ‘flowed’, arguably one of our best ever when you add in our outstanding speaker. Kudos also to Chef Mark for creating an excellent haggis.   All in all, a very pleasant evening at the Club.

Hi Dan,

This is just a note to thank you and the team for a wonderful dinner we had in the Fireside Lounge with friends on Saturday (Feb. 25). We had originally asked for the Camas Room, but switched when we found out there was a birthday party there that evening. A special table was set up for us by the fireplace and we were very comfortable. Chris’ service was great and the food was fabulous. Our friends loved the whole experience.

Apparently, they know the original club and they can’t believe the change and the improvements. They will certainly be coming back.

Many thanks to the Club, for the tickets we won at the Members appreciation evening. The game yesterday morning between Carlton and Queens was quite exciting, even though we lost an hours sleep the night before. It was very good basketball between 2 very evenly matched teams.

We might add the appreciation evening was also superb, what a great chef and crew we have in the Club.

Hi Dan,

I want to send a note of grateful thanks to the staff at the University Club.  If you could please pass along to them and the board, that would be appreciated.  I have had three recent events at the club that were all very different.  In each case all, the staff have been very helpful and food was wonderful.

-The Victoria College lunch (an elderly group which we celebrated a 90th and 100th birthday with a cake made in house and included a presentation by a department on campus).

-The Campus Alumni Appie Hour that included an outdoor activity (Sailing into Summer) with food going along with the theme (note too that I did my best to encourage membership to the club with this group).

-The 100th birthday of our oldest alumna this past Monday.  Most of her family lives out of town including her only son so I helped with a lot of the organization of it, including the venue logistics, décor, etc.  Deb even fielded a call from the office of the Oak Bay mayor who heard about it and wanted to know if there was a program so he could show up and present something to her (which he did).   The two birthday cakes done by the kitchen were not only beautiful but also very tasty.  We (the family, birthday girl and I) really didn’t know how the event would unfold, but it was just perfect. And note it was the alumna that chose the club as the venue for this very special occasion.

The service and professionalism by the staff at all the events were outstanding. And everyone thought the food was great at all of them (which was mentioned verbally and through our post-event surveys).

As you know, I do many events locally and out of town, so have the opportunity to have comparisons. For me it is nice to know that I can always count on the club to ensure that all details of my event are taken care of.  And most times, as event organizers, we do not spend enough time thanking the hospitality industry enough.

So please do pass on my special thanks to Heather, Mark, Deb and all the kitchen and service staff for their excellent work and support of these events.
